LUDLOW — Chief Daniel Valadas announces that the Ludlow Police Department, in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), will be participating a traffic enforcement campaign in July.
This year’s NHTSA campaign is, “Speeding Slows You Down.” Ludlow Police will be deploying extra patrols in July to urge drivers to slow down and follow posted speed limits.
The extra patrols are made possible through grant funding awarded to the Ludlow Police Department. Grants are managed by the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
According to the NHTSA, in 2021 approximately 12,330 people were killed due to speeding. Traffic, running late, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol can contribute to speeding.
Speeding is illegal. A ticket will be issued to motorists who are seen speeding or driving unsafely.
The Ludlow Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors to remain vigilant on the road and take the necessary precautions, including following the posted speed limits, to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
“The safety of our community is our top priority, and these extra patrols will help keep our roads safe,” said Chief Valadas. “Speed limits should not be overlooked or taken lightly. They are put in place to prevent drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians from getting hurt.”
