SCAM ALERT: Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi is warning the public after several Western Mass. residents reported they were contacted by a “Chief Deputy Warren Randall” or “Deputy Walker,” who tries to set up a meeting or collect money to resolve a legal issue.
On at least two occasions, the scammer said he was to be paid a $3,500 fee but the department would not solicit money via phone for any purpose. Sometimes, the phone number on the caller ID appears to be from the Sheriff’s Process and Warrants Office in Springfield, Massachusetts, but it is not legitimate and likely generated via a spoofing service on the Internet.
Sheriff Cocchi is asking members of the public who receive such a message to please call the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation unit- Michael Joslyn at 413-858-0109 to report it.
