The Ludlow Police Departments K9 Unit was started in 2002 under Chief McGowan. The first K9 was a German Shepherd named Cito from the Czech Republic who was trained in patrol and narcotics detection. Cito served from 2002 until 2008. He was replaced by K9 Rocky, a German Shepherd from Hungary, also trained in patrol and narcotics detection. K9 Rocky served from 2009 until 2016.
The current working K9 is Max, a Dutch Shepherd from Slovakia. He is currently certified for patrol work and narcotics detection under the North American Police Work Dog Association.
